The third time’s the charm, as they say, and the twice-postponed concert by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band finally took place on Monday, April 15, 2024, almost exactly a year and a month to the day after it was originally scheduled for the MVP Arena in Albany, N.Y. And no surprise to anyone, it was totally worth the wait, as a seemingly healthy, vibrant Springsteen performed one of his legendary, 28-song, three-hour-plus concerts, turning the sold-out arena into a nightclub in the way that few others seem to manage.

Today Silencer Central released a new suppressor called the Buck 30. This new addition to their Banish line of suppressors was conceived to offer high performance at a reasonable price, and they’ve teamed with Buck Commander to make this happen. I visited Silencer Central last month and got to test the Buck 30, and I compared it side by side with the Banish 30 ($999) and the Banish Backcountry ($1099). From a recoil reduction standpoint, the Banish 30 was the best, but there was not enough difference to really matter.

UConn football won its final two games of the season convincingly, beating a pair of regional “rivals” in Sacred Heart and UMass to end 2023 with a 3-9 record. If college sports is about how you perform against your peers, the Huskies actually fared alright this season despite the bad record. Many of their losses were expected, like those to NC State, Duke, Tennessee, and James Madison. Three of those schools have the all-important “power five” money and the other is a former FCS powerhouse situated in a recruiting hotbed that would have likely defeated UConn in each of the last five years regardless of FBS status.

Our dear friend, Dianne Jacob, and her husband, Owen Rubin, were coming over for dinner, and I said I’d make a cheesecake for dessert. I was thinking of lilikoi, passion fruit, as a possibility.
